CCA of WA Statement on Child Care Deserts

Washington ranks 6th in the country for number of residents living in a child care desert, according to a new report from the Center for American Progress.

Child Care Aware of Washington works every day to increase access to quality child care across the state. We advocate for public policies and investment that help child care providers keep their doors open and remove barriers for low-income families to access quality child care. We are a key convener of child care and early learning partners, including the business community, that work to increase the supply of quality child care.

Today’s report from the Center for American Progress demonstrates that more investment is needed to ensure that no family lives in a child care desert. Investment can come from the state, from businesses who want to ensure a strong and stable workforce both now and in the future, and from philanthropic organizations. CCA of WA promotes all three solutions so that Washington’s child care system is available to all families that need it, regardless of their race, religion, gender, ethnicity, culture, primary language or economic status.
